Aztecs On Tour: Nantes 2025

The Aztecs return to the prestigious Mondial Futsal Feminin in France.

For the weekend of the 8th and 9th of June, the Aztecs took the short flight across the Channel to the north west of France. Returning to Nantes for the second year running, the Mondial Futsal Feminin is a staple of the French futsal calendar, and regularly features some of the top sides from around Europe. It's a great way for the girls to end the season, and to also test ourselves against some of the best!

The twenty-four team tournament featured teams from France, England, Wales, Spain, Belgium, Netherlands, and Germany. The eight Aztecs players to make the trip were Ayuma Asira, Amy Maidment, Beth Anderson, Nicki Curtis, Rebekah Tonks, Divina Alo Ilolo, and Jess Soares.

Having played in France several times now, the Aztecs are practically French. This was the team's fourth trip in just over twelve months to play in French tournaments, so it comes as no surprise that many of the opponents were familiar.

This trip also marked our first match against a Welsh team, in opponents Cardiff.

For the second year running, Rebekah Tonks was selected for the All-Star game. One player from each team is invited to play in a showcase game at the conclusion of the first day. Here she is alongside Belgian international Mariam Toloba.

It's always a blessing to play in France, as their facilities are out of this world. Even the more modest venues are international size. And they're all in such close proximity within Nantes, that we can walk from our hotel to five or six high standard futsal courts.

Amy Maidment was the goalkeeper, joining the list of goalkeepers to have scored abroad.
