WOMEN | Match Report: Aztecs 3 v 4 Bolton

11th March 2023: Southampton come agonisingly close to their first points of the season.

The Aztecs take eleven players for the long trip up to Manchester.

The penultimate game of the league season ends in another defeat for this brave, hard-working squad. Southampton started the game brightly, and went 1-0 up through Rebekah Tonks. Bolton equalised, and the teams went in 1-1 at the break. The second half was competitive, with both teams squandering chances. But as has happened too many times, the Aztecs concede multiple goals in quick succession, finding themselves 3-1 down. It was pulled back to 3-2 via a Rebecca Moody penalty after Kayleigh Tonks was brought down in the D. Bolton scored again to make it 4-2. The Aztecs huffed and puffed, threw the kitchen sink, but could only muster a third goal, which came via a kick-in routine, finished off by Kayleigh Tonks.

Alicia Povey suffered a knee injury early on in the game, and we wait for news as to how long she will be missing.

Attention now turns to the cup games against Hartpury, and the remaining reserve games against Reading and Stevenage.
