25th February 2023: The Aztecs nearly pulled off the comeback during our first ever host day.
A big squad for the Aztecs, playing our first competitive game in Hampshire. Becky Haigh gets a call up, and new signing Ruby Allen makes the squad.
A historic moment for the club as our women's senior team play their first competitive NFS game in Hampshire. Thank you to the fans and sponsors for coming out and showing your support. We hope you were entertained by a day of top level futsal!
With two heavy defeats against Helvecia in the past, the Aztecs were looking to display improvement against England's top side. A year since the last encounter between the two teams, and the Aztecs have grown significantly, providing more opportunities for players to compete within futsal. A large squad of talented players to choose from, Southampton were hoping to match the quality, and exceed the fitness.
Lauren Sayler made some very important saves in goal, and the Aztecs matched Helvecia in the first half, feeling somewhat unlucky to be 2-1 at the break. In the second half, it took a few moments of madness in quick succession for Helvecia to score three goals and go ahead 5-1. The "new say die" attitude of the Aztecs fought back to 5-4 with only two minutes to go. With momentum on their side, going for broke and throwing the kitchen sink, Southampton got caught twice by some clinical Helvecia finishing, who scored two quick goals at the end to take the game to 7-4.
A good performance, but another loss, we still await those first points of the league season.
Kayleigh Tonks scored two cracking goals and earned herself the player of the match award.

Up next for the Aztecs will be a two-legged round of sixteen game in the cup against Hartpury, followed by two final league games against Bolton and then Helvecia again.
